We had lots of chat this week about the colder weather in Winter and also made use of the new days of the week and weather calendar. The child whose turn it is to choose a toy from the cupboard also changes the details on the calendar, this is so that we ensure every child gets a turn. We have sung the days of the week song at every register time too, children are really getting the hang of this now. A big hit this week was the shaving foam/paint in cake tins in the tuff spot, there was lots of play around this and some children who don’t usually enjoy shaving foam spent a long time playing with this activity, particularly enjoying moving it around with paint brushes. We also had lots of interest in the ice cube table with polar animals and iceberg. The Duplo vehicles were also included and some children loved transporting the ice cubes on the trucks, there was much mopping of the floor by staff but good fun was had by all! We have chatted about feeding birds in the winter and some children made a treat for the birds by threading Cheerios on to string to hang in their gardens at home. There will be more next week on looking after our feathered friends in the colder weather. Children also made polar bears and icebergs which are to be included on a display screen and we had various stories about polar bears, also brown bears who hibernate in the Winter. Despite the colder weather we still play outside every day, so thank you for sending your children in with coats, hats, gloves and boots – the staff just need to remember theirs now! A big thank you to everyone who brought in books and ‘Winter’ relevant items. Don’t forget to add any photos about what your child is doing at home at the weekends onto Tapestry, the children love to see photos of themselves on the Pre-School tablets!
