Shark in the Park certainly inspired role play this week and all the children were all engaged in the story every day- chanting the words and becoming very excited when they saw the real shark on the final page of the book. We made telescopes and the children looked through them to find triangle shapes in the Hall and the garden – we noticed the top of the body of the wooden butterfly in the garden looked just like a shark’s fin when viewed through the telescope. We made shark hats another day and used these in role play, setting off on the train, arriving at the park and then swimming in the river, shouting and running off when a shark came. The train was out every day and they took on the role of the driver, ticket collector and passengers using the hole punch to clip the tickets. There were lots of different ideas for destinations.
