On Monday we welcomed a new Pre-School Assistant, Marta, to our happy setting and it already feels like she has become one of the ‘gang’. She has made many new little friends over the course of the week and she says she is coming back next week, so we are all very pleased about that!
Last week there was lots of talk amongst the children about Pets so this week the role-play area was made into a Veterinary Practice, lots of the children brought along their own soft toy pets – it proved to be very busy and we all watched some delightful play amongst friends. Animals were x-rayed, bandaged and put into a bed or into homemade cardboard box ‘cages’, they had their temperatures taken and were fed and watered to aid recovery! There were sheets to fill in on each animal asking for their name and injury, also whether they needed any ‘injections’ – children could indicate this by circling around a smiley face or sad face. There was a reception area and waiting room where children sat with their pets in boxes whilst ‘reading’ magazines.
We have had goldfish in the setting all week which some of the children have enjoyed just watching, others drew pictures of them which they displayed on the wall. We also had a visit from Alice & Alexander’s rabbit ‘Woody’ who was very calm and enjoyed (or was it endured!) lots of stroking. Many thanks Emma for bringing him in. On Friday Pauline brought in Taylor the Guinea Pig – the children watched Taylor eat celery and carrot and there were giggles when Taylor hid in the hay.
We made cat, dog and chick badges and read lots of pet, animal and vet books.
Recently we fundraised for some new equipment and this week we spent some of the money! Two parcels arrived full of lovely new resources including giant magnets with some special ‘coins’ to pick up, toys for construction and a sweet little house with real locks and keys.
