Both groups have been lucky enough to visit the Hunt family stables over the last two weeks – a very big thank you to Sian. Amazingly, the weather for once WAS on our side with glorious sunshine. The stables are in the village of ‘Filkins’; so a little further away than the children are used to travelling for their Forest School session….but I shouldn’t have worried! They all took the time to watch the world go by-especially in Burford; where it is great to people watch seeing so many things happen up and down the high street with songs being sung deafeningly! The children were given some very yummy hot chocolate with marshmallows on top….don’t usually get such a treat!!! They were then ready for the off….. walking around the outside of the paddock. We chatted about the length of grass; at one point it was even as high as Monty’s head! Blowing the dandelion heads was a great maths opportunity, how the seeds are then distributed to grow again-also checking out the blossom/cow parsley-the wonder of nature. The children were able to ‘play’ with the bats n’ balls, as well as build with the horse jumping equipment-great for problem solving and thought process-it was interesting as a spectator to see how very different the two groups approached this activity. The topic continued with animals and their young-a new puppy called ‘Fig’ visited the Pre-school-oh so sweet and very well behaved. At the end of the week we had a ‘Grandparents Day’ the children sang a few songs plus played a triangle, followed by tea with cake-Kate rallied round and was a star-so thanks to her and all those Grandparents who visited us-feel free to pop in again!
