The nights are drawing in very rapidly and the clocks go back at the weekend.
This week we have been discussing how dark it is getting when the children go to bed and that it’s still dark first thing in the morning. We have looked at a super variety of lamps, candles and torches – we’ve talked about how some need to be plugged in to use electricity to work, others using batteries and some wind up. We have even thought about a time before electricity when homes were lit by candle light.
We have read the story Can’t You Sleep, Little Bear all about a little bear who is scared of the dark. Big Bear brings every increasing sized lanterns to chase away the dark. The story prompted talk about bedtime at home, some of the children said they have a light on to go to sleep, others said they like it really dark.
Each day this week, we have been painting and sticking cars, stars, houses and people to make our new board by the Listening Rabbit Room – it is all about how the days are shortening. Please do take a look at the children’s lovely work, their WOW board and other displays around the room.
As the first half-term draws to a close we reflect on how well all the children have settled into preschool, they have come to recognise our routines and rules and have been telling us about what they like to do. Forest School have been having a wonderful time on local walks and now venturing out in the minibus to Leafield Community Woods. Cooking Club has faced some challenges with the oven door smashing on it’s first outing, but none-the-less the children and staff battled through making treasure tarts and chocolate brownies. Happily the oven has now been repaired, and the thermostats replaced we are told – which bodes well for next term. Little Dancers is hugely anticipated with the arrival of Sally Dancer and her sparkly shoes.
We wish all our families a most enjoyable half-term week, don’t forget to put your clocks back by an hour on Sunday and, see you back at Tiddy Hall w/c 3 November.
