Learning about Diwali

We learnt that Diwali is the Hindu “festival of lights” which celebrates the New Year. … Diwali is celebrated by Hindus and Sikhs in Britain and all over the world. We talked about this and had lots of twinkling lights on display, the children all heard the story about Rama & Sita, some really loved the story and were able to recall it well at Pre-School and at home.

Some of us made rangoli patterns on the playdough and chalked on the tuff-spot, as well as making rangoli patterns in salt dough using dried pulses and lentils to create a design. We also made diva lamps from paper plates which we painted and decorated with tissue paper flames in the middle.

We also had many Diwali feasts throughout the week and all of the children had an opportunity to try poppadoms, naan & chapatti, samosas & pakoras. Some said Yummy, some not so sure!
