The children have really enjoyed learning about “Healthy Living” this week.
Annie Kennedy visited us in her nurses uniform and discussed healthy foods, exercise, hygiene and also how important it is to go to bed nice and early and get lots of sleep. Visits to the doctor, dentist & hospital were also discussed and the children were all very active in the discussions with Annie. She also let them listen to their own hearts beating with her stethoscope which they all found amazing.
We also had a visit from Kate Krzywiec in her physiotherapist uniform who spoke to the children about the importance of warming up before exercise and food we eat to keep our bones and muscles strong and healthy and also injuries and how we repair our bodies. She also did a fantastic warm up with the children prior to their Sports Day practise.
We have been practising our races for sports day, running, balancing eggs on spoons and jumping hurdles, throwing bean bags and wearing silly hats, which all of the children have thoroughly enjoyed !
The children have also made their own healthy lunch boxes doing lots of cutting out and sticking………..some lunches did look more like wishful thinking, treat lunch boxes though Jonny S !!!
We also enjoyed exercising along to the Sticky Kids Crunching Munching CD and the Mister Leafy Green song was definitely a firm favourite. Some of the children then went on to draw a fantastic picture of Mister Leafy Green himself which are now displayed on a board.
There was also lots of fun going on all week in the role-play corner in our hospital with the children dressing up and bandaging up their friends, they challenged themselves with the healthy food jigsaw puzzles and enjoyed drilling out the teeth of our playdough man.
