Beech group had their first Forest School session. We walked down the Lane over the road from the Hall-it was quite squishy, there were puddles & we spoke about the rain that had filled them. The leaves on the trees were still green but on the ground they were yellow/red/brown/black-we chatted about the colour changes of the leaves as the weather changes to autumn. We spoke about keeping safe by the road and what is ok to pick i.e. black blackberries and NOT other berries, fungi nor mushrooms which are for birds/animals, remembering to always ask the adult who is with them just in case. The entire group had a bag to put their blackberries in-some bags emptied as fast as they were filled!
Along the way the children saw lots of interesting natural pieces to investigate- as well as count.
Several trains passed by as we walked along the Lane, do ask your child if they were all short or was there a long train with lots of carriages?
After walking over the magical bridge we spoke about taking risks, being aware of dangers for ourselves plus others and what we may need to do, to lessen or avoid the hazard-a great life lesson. Then it was time to head back- a good beginning to Forest School.
