This week we read and did some activities around Jack & the Beanstalk. The ‘Listening Rabbit’s’ listened very intently to the story and on another day they listened to the CD version which really held their attention. They were able to answer and ask many questions about the pictures in the book – the conversation turned to the giant dying and that then led on to the subject of pets – it’s funny how these little minds work! As you are aware we are constantly planning around the children’s interests and as a result of many of the children’s comments we plan to do some activities around Pets & Vets next week and would welcome anything on this topic that they might like to bring in from home. Especially welcome would be photo’s of your own pets for a wall display. The younger children didn’t miss out on Jack & the Beanstalk this week as Sally told her own version of the story that held them spellbound! We set up ‘Tiddy Garden Centre’ in the home corner with compost, pots, flowers and trowels and children were able to plant their own runner bean if they wanted. This area also has lots of ‘real’ pictures of vegetables, flowers etc as well as gardening words and pictures that have been laminated…. This is important and a fun and meaningful way to bring environmental print into Pre-School. Lots of the children point out company logo’s that they see displayed at Pre-School which they also see in the ‘real world!’ We have managed lots of outside play this week… many thanks for continuing to remember their coats, hats, gloves and wellies. Please could we ask that you label all outdoor clothing as it is so time consuming to hold up pairs of gloves and also hats that have gone astray from their owner – invariably it is never just one child who claims ownership of them!! Sorry to nag!! Sharon
