We enjoyed a week leading up to Chinese New Year. The children practised using the greeting “nihao” at circle time and by the end of the week many had the confidence to do this. We talked about people speaking different languages in other countries and how we speak English at Preschool. We also looked at how to use chopsticks instead of a knife and fork. We read the story of the Chinese Emperor and the Painter and predicted what might happen next. The children have been making dragons in preparation for a Dragon dance next week. In the role play area we set up a Chinese restaurant and some were very good at taking orders, writing them down and serving the food. We had prawn crackers during the week and are looking forward to trying some other Chinese food.
We also continued the knitting theme with a demonstration by staff – hopefully we will have a few knitted scarves for the dolls. One child has put in an order for her dolly! Thank you to Lucy’s mum who very kindly came in with her crochet work and showed the children how to do this, she has left us samples to look at and play with.
