The long awaited 21st day arrived and we came into Tiddy Hall on Monday to the sound of cheeping! Great excitement all around and the staff were like mother hens! We removed the egg shells from the incubator and revisited how the little chicks got out of the shell by using their egg tooth – the children were able to see the egg tooth still intact. We were lucky enough to see one chick all fluffy and dry but also the other chick was wet and still very exhausted from the hatching – we have spoken about this over the past few weeks, so it was great to reinforce this. The two chicks are now in a cardboard box on the stage under a heat lamp, nice and cosy with ‘chick crumbs’ for food and water in a shallow bowl with stones in… ask your children why there are stones in the water. We haven’t quite given up hope on the other eggs hatching… we are only at day 22! We think the most surprised adult was Phil M – well done Leon, you were right all along!
