Favourite pants are often mentioned in our chats here at Pre-School, whether they be printed with roaring dinosaurs or pretty, pink and frilly. With such interest from the children and a fantastic conversation starter, we felt that this topic needed further coverage! There are an incredible amount of children’s books available with this topic so we decided to base our planning around some of them. The children helped decorate 10 pairs of big pants to hang on a washing line – this became our number line and we have had lots of number games and songs around this line – great counting and an increase in number recognition. They also made tiny pairs of pants to take home – they chose the decorations themselves, lots of sequins, glitter, lace, cut-outs, curly spaghetti and even leopard print! We made golden shield badges and junk model castles – a link to the humorous book, ‘Sir Scallywag and the Golden Underpants’. Another book ‘Hamish the Highland Cow’ featured this week, he makes a long overdue trip to the hairdressers – of course the hairdresser equipment came out of the cupboard, children enjoyed brushing the model’s hair, putting curlers and clips in – the end result was rather ‘dragged through a hedge backwards,’ but never mind we had fun! We made biscuits in the shape of pants which were iced in lovely bright colours with lots of hundreds and thousands etc. Lots of you have asked about the pink glittery playdough which I made with raspberry jelly, so I will post the recipe on our website for those who are interested in making their own.
Next week the ‘Pants’ theme continues – I will post a list of the books on the blog at the end of next week – they will be back and available at the village Library then.
As always thank you so much to all of the parents/carers who took this topic on board and sent in their children’s own books and ‘pants’ related artwork that they have been doing at home, and a big thank you to the children for sharing their conversations with us about their favourite pair of pants.
